What is solar control film and how does it cut cooling costs?
A plain-language explainer: what the film does, what "TSER" means, and when it pays back.
Solar control film is a film applied to existing window glass that reflects or absorbs part of the sun's energy — mainly near-infrared heat — while letting visible light through.
What "TSER" means
TSER stands for Total Solar Energy Rejection: the share of the sun's total energy (not just visible light) that the film keeps out. A film with TSER 54% keeps out more than half of the solar energy hitting the glass. On delivered projects we have measured up to 62%.
When it pays back
Cooling-driven buildings see the fastest payback: hotels, offices and retail with large glass areas and long air-conditioning hours.
Film or replacement?
Film works on existing glass — no frames, no delivery, no demolition. Replacement makes sense for failed seals or structural upgrades, not for heat and glare alone.
